CRAZY night in Tamarindo |
We got here on saturday...hitch hiked to be exact. The ticos that gave us rides were really nice sweet. It was a great way to practice our spanish. And dont worry...we do get selective and picky when chosing a car to flag down! Its actually very common in Costa Rica. We got to our hostel and it is so freakin cute. Walls painted in cow print, a opened up court yard with a lounge area and internet and a tv, hammocks on the porches...super chill place. We went our our first night to a fun club and met some really sweet locals. Yesterday we walked around and took it easy and our 3 friends that we knew from school came down from Potrero and hung out with us...watched the sunset ad had the best sushi ever!
and here comes the crazy-crappy part.....
Jamie and I went to bed around 12am last night, totally sober, our bags packed so we would be ready to leave today to our next destination. Our swiss roomates, two older guys, really nice and I think they might be gay....well anyways, they went to bed after us, they were playing cards and using the internet and what not..well we woke up this morning and one of them noticed his bag was gone...it got stolen in the middle of the night. So jamie and I jump out of bed and I realize all my stuff is still here....my bag, money...everything. Jamie on the other hand notices that her beach bag and top half of her backpack that dettaches from the big part was gone. Her ipod, camera, wallet, bras, bathing suits, credit cards are all gone. Luckily i had her passport in my wallet...so fortunate. The other guys got their passports, money and the keys to their rental car stolen. The people that stole from us took off in the rental car!! I dont know if the swiss guys forgot to lock the door when they went to bed but the little tico janitor that works here said he saw a blonde haired couple come by around 2am, go straight into our room, they came out, used the internet for 30 minutes then took off in the rental car. The little janitor thought they were staying in our room so didnt assume anything.Pretty freaking creepy that 2 people came into our room whle we were all sleeping AND THEN hung out in the crime scene for 30 more minutes!! And jamies stuff was right under her bed so they were literally so close to her! So it sucks but James is taking it really good and being super positive. It could have been way worse, both of us could have no passport or money and luckily i have all my stuff to share, like a camaera and ipod and most importantly her passport!!! So we are going to have to stay here in Tamarindo for a couple more days until jamies mom can express mail her cards to the local post office here. Definitely not a great morning but all really important lessons learned to prevent this from happening again. We are literally sitting here planning way to put traps all around our room...we were thinking about hanging a rattle on the door and putting loud attractions throughout the entire room...what do you think??? AHHH the glory of traveling!! Miss you all!! PURA VIDA! |

Ok Lu... first it is the hitch hiking and now your room is getting broken into. I think Jamie has a good idea going. I would put about 10 rattles above the door along with a bucket full of a liquid cleaner so when the door opens it dumps all over them, stings their eyes to a point they can't focus on where your things are and then they give up:-) Well that is just me. No one steals from my family! When I received your last email regarding your encounter with two blond thieves, I was just responding to your email prior to the latest one. I am happy to hear that you are both ok and Jamie is taking this well. I would have been freaking out! Please be careful… Miss you and love you tons. I am still going to send you my email since I am almost done writing it. XoXo

First off... I am SO thankful that neither you nor Jamie were injured or hurt during this whole experience. I am a little concerned that you two are hitchhiking in a foreign country... that's the mother in me talking! But I guess if it's a common way of travel for most people than it can't be that bad. I can't believe you guys slept through all that! Do you think it could have been a conspiracy with the other Swiss dudes?! It all feels so creepy and weird. I saw there was an update further up so I have to go back and read :)
