dos dia en Costa Rica!!
Hola mi familia y mis amigos!! I wont burden you with the spanish but no worries, I am learning it! Today in class Me, Nick (my london friend that is 19 and acts...uh...19!) and Carlos from d.c. played games with our teacher and literally laughed the entire time! We are all horrible but slowly grasping the language! Jamie and I walked to class this morning and a dog with no tail, just a nub, follwed us the entire way! The walk is beautiful...45 minutes on the beach with nothing to look at but blue ocean and Costa Rican houses on the sand...and a dog´s ass with no tail. Spent the rest of my day trying sitting by the pool at the resort that CPI students have free access to and socializing with other travelers! It wasnt too adventurous but just being here at all makes it so so surreal. I am in awe of the beauty and the warming culture. I live up the road a bit from everyone else in Potrero...about a ten minute walk into the center but the whole walk home in the evening and walk in the morning I constantly greet, and am being greeted, by ticos (Costa Rican locals) The children are so cute. Durting breakfast I watched our neighboring mom prepare her son for school. He brushed his teeth in an outdoor sink, went to the bathroom in an outhouse, and put on a shirt that was hang drying on a line. His mother made sure she put gel in his hair and gave him his dose of medicine and most importantly gave him a big hug, looked at his homework, gave him colones($) for lunch and sent him off with his older brother waving at them all the way down the street. The entire time of watching this the boy never stopped smiling. 20 minutes of pure smiles from the boy and his mother. It was moments like this that made me truly appreciate and love this culture. It reminded me of my family life, mom quizing me on spelling in the morning, dad giving me money (still, to this day..haha) and waving goodbye at me until I was no longer in sight. I am just in disbelief of the small occurances in life that I am so greatful to experience here in a different country! Pura Vida could never be more true! Sorry if its too much of a mushy moment but i had to share!!!

Miss you all! Ill try to write soon! Im off on a boat cruise on thursday and white water rafting on saturday and sunday but pictures will come soon...i promise Katie!!!! Sorry on the delay!

Hasta Luego!!

Lucy....it's great hearing about all of your adventurers and sounds like it is really going to become more stressful for you....you know trying to figure out what to wear on a TWO day white water rafting trip...I think we need to talk about this "educational" experience you are currently on...actually I am jealous and will be joining you soon...I might invite Mom to come along too..All kidding aside....I arrive Saturday morning...I will be the slightly heavy guy dressed in flower shorts with a tank top and rainbow sandals...remember I am also their to take part in the "educational" experience...

Lucy, I am really proud of you in all that you are doing and taking the time to enjoy all of your surroundings....traveling is one of the best learning experiences one can really enjoy.....and it sounds as if you are making the most of it.

Everything here is going along just great, of course your Mom continues to beat me in cards (of course I let her win....NOT). Looking forward to seeing all of your pictures from this upcoming weekend...enjoy yourself but be safe (I just had to get in at least one piece of advice, its just my nature as a Dad)- hsng in there and I will send some other "pearls" of wisdom to you soon. Enjoy the "educational" experience, you deserve it....love ya....

OK-so I just read the blog from Tuesday and started crying. I am so grateful that you are sharing those moments with us because it sure does put things in percpective for me. Back here at home things are soooo crazy with trying to juggle everything that I have gotten really frazzeled and hurried. Your story about the little boy just made me realize I need to slow down and not miss the oh so important moments with my little babies. Thanks Lucy- I can't tell you how much I needed your excellent story telling today!!! Love and miss you but I am so glad your there so you can share. Hugs-Katie

Hi, Baby Girl! I miss you so much! And although I love reading your blog, it makes me want to hear your voice, see your beautiful face, be the one sitting across from you at the breakfast table watching the little boy and his mom and loving the moment with you! And for all the same reasons you loved watching...for all the memories the sight brought back. Wasn't it just yesterday I was doing those things for you? Driving you to OLF and waving all the way out of the parking lot and down the street to you and Andy in the school yard? How did it go so quickly...high school, college, first career job and now traveling to places far away from home?!? It's never easy letting go (hmmm, where have I heard that before, Andy?) but I'm working hard at doing it and yes, your blog helps make you feel closer. (So will a phone call now and then...hint, hint, hint!) And as much as I miss you, Lu-Lu, I am happy you are getting to experience life outside the OC for all the horizons it will open up for you. And while you're doing it, be safe, Lucy! And remember what you grew up hearing..."Have fun, be good, and if you have to choose...choose good!" (Sorry, I just couldn't sign off without a Mom/Jeanne-ism!!!)

Love you tons, Lucy, and I'm so proud of you!! Mom

Name:
Location: All Over, Costa Rica

I'm 25 and from San Clemente California. I consider myself a free spirit that loves taking risks, whether the outcome is positive or ends up a disaster, the risk is always worth it. I just recently made the decision to travel to Costa Rica for a few months and overwhelm my mind with its beautiful culture and language. I am leaving my job and taking a jump towards unpredictable, yet exciting, new experiences! I am so excited to start this new journey and know only great things will come from it!!
